On October 5, 2021 I received a call from my mom that we had lost my beloved Uncle Joe to his long-time battle with depression. He and I had been in touch earlier that year, and talked a bit about science fiction movies and shows, computers, judo, exercise, intermittent fasting, and his mental health. It had been great reconnecting with my very own living G.I. Joe, and the knowledge he imparted in his wise baritone will stay with me for a long time. The call that day left me in confusion: he had been doing a lot better, and I thought that just being able to talk about mental health was supposed to help. According to those around him, it did. But it wasn't quite enough. I participated in my first Walk for Awareness the very next week.
Every day 9 Australians take their own life.
I am participating in Walk for Awareness and am fundraising for Mental Awareness Foundation to help prevent this. Please donate to my page to help, donations will help fund life-saving counselling sessions.
Donations are secure and all donations over $2 are tax deductible.
